STAR OF YESTERYEAR - NORMA CREECH
INDUCTED JUNE 18, 1996
One of the newest members to the HALL OF FAME is STAR OF YESTERYEAR.
The committee has selected Norma Creech for this honor and we hope that
you agree with us.
Norma started her bowling career back in 1961 when she attended a
local program called CAPRI CAPERS with Norm Keller and Dori Ensor as
hosts. It orginated at the then new Columbia Lanes in their lounge. As
part of the show, contestants were selected to participate in a 2 or 3
frame roll-off. After several weeks. a roll-off series was staged between
the daily, weekly winners. Norma was one of the contestants, but for the
life of me I can't remember if she won the championship match. From
bowling this, Norma went on to become a charter member of the Household
Executives league, which is still in existance today. Norma then started
to bowl in the night leagues and soon became known as one of the better
bowlers in Hamilton. She became the first woman in history of the
Greater Hamilton WBA to roll a 700 series-- a 744 which she bowled in
October of 1976. To date this is the highest series ever bowled in our
association. Her high game was a 279.( She had 2 of these scores.) Her
high league average was a 188 as a regular member of a team( she carried
a 202 one year but hastens to add that this was an average as a
substitute bowler based on 24 games.)In 1976 she decided to join the pro
ranks. She only stayed on the pro tour for 2 seasons and participated in
four tournaments where she cashed twice. Family duties and the cost of
entering these tournaments became a deciding factor in her choice of
remaining on the pro tour, so she left after two seasons.
Norma started to suffer serious back pains and underwent a spinal
fusion which has prohibited her participation in bowling in recent
years. In 1984 she tried to make a comeback and with her daughter Nancy,
she won the handicap division in the Association Doubles Tournament.
However her back pains have become so bad that she just can't participate
any more. However she is still an ardent supporter of the game and still
entertains thought of returning. I submit to you the name of Norma Creech
for induction into the GREATER HAMILTON HALL OF FAME for being the STAR
OF YESTERYEAR.
